A Celebration of Christmas A flexible SATB Christmas cantata by Donald Moore and Ruth Elaine Schram |
A Celebration of Christmas (Excerpts) |
This flexible Christmas musical incorporates several seasonal favorites as well as original material by Donald Moore and Ruth Elaine Schram. All of the songs are written at a moderate level, well within the ranges and abilities of most church choirs.
A Celebration of Christmas is scored for SATB choir with optional children's choir (parts included in the score) and optional congregational participation. One song is scored for women's voices, and may be sung by a duet, all the women of the choir, a small ladies ensemble, or children's voices. In addition, one song is scored for men's voices, and may be sung by a duet, small male ensemble, or all the men of the choir.
The cantata calls for one, two, or three narrators. The part for a third narrator may be read by a child, another adult, the two narrators together, or the choir in unison.
The cantata may be performed with keyboard accompaniment alone, the added brass quartet and flute instrumentation (included in the back of the choral book), or with the recorded orchestration.
All the selections in this musical also make wonderful single anthems for use throughout the entire Advent and Christmas season, adapting freely to worship on Sunday morning and Christmas Eve services.
