Because He Broke the Bread
View scoreView score page 1, page 5, page 6
Lovely, thought-provoking anthem is suitable for observances of the Lord's Supper, Communion services, or Passion Week. The text by John Parker and Ruth Elaine Schram, full of passion imagery, is written from the viewpoint of the apostles as they tried to understand what Jesus was about to do. Correlation is then made between the apostles and the modern Christian with phrases such as "Jesus died on Calvary, broken there for you and me. On His brow, it was our crown He wore." The anthem ends with the statement of faith "We know Him as the chosen Lamb of God, because He broke the bread." The beautiful melody brings out the emotions that must have been and still are felt by those who believe.
